Sales on Demand Corporation was founded in Tokyo in 2004 by Tamio Kobata. Starting in 1968, Kobata worked for over three decades at Dentsu, Japan's No.1 advertising agency. He developed numerous campaigns for international firms looking to make inroads into Japan.

In 2002, Kobata encountered Roomba, the robotic vacuum cleaner made by US-based iRobot Corporation. It was love at first sight. In 2003, Kobata entered into an agreement with iRobot's CEO to promote and market Roomba in Japan and established SODC the following year. SODC gradually and successfully established robotic vacuum cleaners as a new product category in Japan. Cumulative sales by SODC hit 100,000 units in 2009, then showed dramatic growth, surpassing the one million mark in 2013.

As SODC grew, it established a network of sales offices outside its Tokyo base. With a presence in Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka, the company has comprehensive geographical coverage of Japan.

In 2009, SODC became the exclusive Japanese distributor for Blueair AB, a Swedish manufacturer specializing in air purifiers, and in 2014 signed an exclusive Japanese distributor agreement with Romotive, Inc., an American manufacturer of educational robots. We remain on the lookout for amazing products to bring into Japan.
